Cross Country

After a long wait watching the little kids run their race it was finally our turn. As we got ready on the starting line I could see mud all over the feild.’”Oh no” I moaned knowing that I would get really muddy. As soon as Mr Burt clapped his clappers we were off like a stampede
of animals.

As I got in the bush walk it was so hard to run.The track was narrow which made it hard to overtake people and there was so much mud.The further I got the mudder it got. After a while I could hardly notice the shoes I was wearing. Suddenly I slipped going down one of the stairs hurting my leg. Now the back of my pants were all muddy. “Now I’m really getting ” I thought to my self.

Finally seeing the finish line I felt happy to see our house captions Kayde and Vanilla waving our Yellow Taki-Timu Flag.

Smoking

Smoking is very bad for your health. It has over 4000 chemicals and a very addictive drug called nicotine. The health problems it causes are heart disease, throat cancer, black lungs and circulation problems. If its really bad your toes might go black and you might need to get your leg cut off. In New Zealand over 4500-5000 people die every year because of smoking.

Not only does smoking affect your body from the inside it can affect your body from the outside as well. It can  give you things like rotten and yellow teeth, yellow fingernails. It also makes your skin dry up giving you wrinkles.

The cost is also a big thing especially if you smoke a packet a day you spend $15 a day on a packet of cigarettes that's about $420 a month. You could save heaps of money and spend it on something you will want in the future.

Why do teenages start? Is it because they want to look cool in front of their friends or is it because they are pressured to? In order to not smoke you have to stand up for yourself.

So I think it is better not to start smoking.

The Amazing Valerie Adams

Valerie Adams, New Zealand’s shot put champion, was unable to hold back her tears as she was being interviewed. Following her final throw, she had the realisation, that her wishes of becoming the World Shot Put Champion for the second time, were now ruined. A woman named Nadzeya Ostapchuk of Belarus had taken Valerie’s place, beating her personal best of 21.34metres. This was a very emotional evening for her. Valerie had worked tirelessly and despite her disappointment, she was proud of her achievements even though she got silver.
